All images on this site fall into one of three catagories.
1) Photos of items that I own personally or that a friend owns. These are depcitions of personal property and any licensensing fees are assumed to have been covered by the purchase of that item.
2) Items found on the internet and available as public domain, or through a Creative Commons license.
3) Items for which I have specifically requested permission from the image owner and have been granted permission to use the image, sometimes, but not always, in consideration for a link or credit.
If you find an image here which you own and would like it removed or would like to have a credit, and link to your site, or other compensation, please contact me at george@americangothicparodies.

There are no copies of the unadulterated original image on this site.
The exception being when the image is depicted on a piece of officially licensed merchandise (i.e. a mug or tie).

This is a copy of a letter sent to 'Midwest Today' by Visual Artist's and Galleries Association in 1996:
To Whom it may concern:
VAGA, the Visual Artist's and Galleries Association, represents copyrights
and related rights for works of art of a few thousand artists and estates of
artists worldwide. This includes the Estate of Nan Wood Graham, heir to Grant
Wood and also the woman portrayed in his painting American Gothic.
While we recognize the importance of your site in promoting the Grant Wood
exhibition at the Davenport Museum, now that the show is long over, we ask that
you immediately remove the image from your site within the next two weeks.
Reproductions on the Web are of particular concern to us give the broad nature
of distribution and the ease of downloading and further unauthorized use.
For future reference all reproductions of American Gothic must be cleared in
writing through VAGA or the Arti Institute of Chicago which owns the original
and protects the rights in it in conjunction with VAGA.
